Sorry I haven't posted anything like I said I would from my creative writing class we aren't doing fiction till the end of the semester we just got done with the poetry section and we are starting Creative Non-Fiction yuck i'm not a big fan. Anyways even though I'm not much of a poet at all I thought I would post two of my least terrible poems to see what you think keep in mind my main goal and the main goal the professor emphasized was to hit an emotion *WARNING* they may contain some adult or disturbing images and other work I post may as well they don't care about potentially disturbing people some I hear even encourage it. Oh and I'm sorry about the formating I don't know what I can do to fix it

The Death of Laughter

The laughter of children playing

is a glorious sound.

It fills me with a warm

glowing radiance. I can’t help,

but to smile and laugh

especially when it’s my own son.

My own flesh.

I can’t resist that laughs power

nothing can match it.

Seeing him ride his Red Bike

on his own for the first time,

a smile stretched across his face, and

with laughter in his heart.

Riding past the big oak tree I used to ride past

I will never forget that image

moments before his laughter was silenced.

The Green Car sped by

and I looked away for a moment.

A robin sat on a limb of the big oak tree

It suddenly flew away startled

by a sharp sound.

I turned and the Green Car

was casually driving away.

I’ll never know who

that driver was or why

they drove away.

A crumpled tangled red mass

laid in the middle of the road.

I ran towards it,

my heart pounding,

I saw nothing but shades of red

the shades of red, bright

and dark, mixing together.

I picked up his crumpled and broken body

and I ran, but I could barely see.

I buried my head into his chest

I can’t stop from screaming

And I realize that all laughter has died.

That One Day in Summer

That one day in summer

when we went swimming at the lake.

Do you remember?

The sun was setting,

those purple and orange colors

reflecting on the water,

and you were wearing that blue bikini.

You know the one.

I just swam in the cool water cracking jokes

out of nervousness while I watched you

sitting on the dock

I told myself today would be the day,

now was the time,

there was no more waiting.

I would finally say what I had meant

to say for years.

But I didn’t.

I just watched you talking to that other guy

That other guy with the red shorts and the smirk

and I pushed my feelings deeper.

That’s when I first realized

I didn’t deserve you.

Summer Writing Camp

I know, the name is silly, but the idea is far from it. If you are feeling the heat (and I know it hasn't been bad) of summer sapping away at your creativity, come and see me for a revival. I'm teaching a summer writing camp on August 3-7 in the mornings (but it doesn't start till 9).
Cost is 25, with all supplies, snacks, lunch on Thursday, and admission to Ella Sharp Museum included.
Dates: August 3-7, Monday-Friday, 9-12 on most days (see brochure for details)
Interested? Sign up here.

Please come out. I would love to have a contingent of Napoleon students there...and I'm sure most of you could use the writing practice. And hey, $25 isn't much for a whole week of Mrs. G time.

I am a cotton-headed-ninny-muggins

I hope none of you went to the Jackson Coffee Co today and cursed me for not being there. I think I got my calendars crossed. TOMORROW I will be there at 10! Hope you can join me.

Mrs. G

PS: Come even if you don't have any writing to share. Invite a friend or seven.

What are you doing this summer

I am hosting a Creative Writing workshop with a friend of mine this summer. It will run the first week in August (Aug 3-9, I think) from 9-noon. We're going to do some intense writing--focusing (we think) on fiction and creative non-fiction.

Interested? Let me know. I'd love to have a Napoleon group out there. Ask your friends. There will be a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials, but it won't be much.

I'll give you more information as my friend and I hammer out the details.

Yipee!

I guess National Novel Writing Month is officially here! And how many pages have I gotten? None! yay! the more I try to write something new, the more I add on to my old story... of course, my old story consisted of a single page... Would anybody mind overmuch if I just count the pages I add to that, instead of starting a new one? Now that I'm supposed to be working on something else, I've found my writer's block is completely gone reguarding that one story. I wrote ten pages in two days when I usually have trouble completeing a paragraph! Urgg.
Anybody else who's doing the challenge (which is all of what? three, four people?) having similar problems?

Wheels a turnin!

hey guys, for those who actually do go on here, and before a week from now, who thinks we should do some sorta add-on story idea where one person makes a beginning and then more people add on to it? I'd really like to do something like that and I think we should start one up, maybe every meetings we could just pass it to the next person and see what we end up with in a few months.

My Favorite Day

a screech shatters the early morning hush
as bleary students shuffle into school
clutching gas station coffee juice and
bagels--tall cans promising energy

they look up (startled) their jaws slack
as a woman in an apron
her hair teased into artful peaks
brandishes a gleaming set of tongs

DO YOU KNOW WHAT DAY IT IS STUDENTS
IT'S CRAZY COOKIE THURSDAY
COME GET YOUR CRAZY COOKIES

students grin and
duck their heads
some
dive into their pockets for change

TWO FOR A DOLLAR OR 50 CENTS EACH

cupcakes with a smear of frosting
oatmeal raisin soft and spicy
chunky peanut butter (glistening with sugar)
gooey chocolate chip
coconut layer bars that defy adjectives

thursday has replaced friday on my list
of favorite days

A Challenge for you

Hi guys!

I just learned this interesting fact: November is National Novel Writing Month! And there is a website that is set up to help people (mostly first time novelists) write a novel in 30 days. Starting November 1 at midnight, anyone who has logged in to the site can begin submitting text (you're supposed to wait until then to start writing), and then you've got until midnight on November 30 to get the rest of the novel done. The goal: 50,000 words, about 175 pages. There is a computer program that tallies word count and the site will announce the winners (those who made it to 50,000 words in 30 days).

Anyone up for the challenge? I'm gonna do it.
